Strategic focus areas
Industry-leading productivity and financial performance can be achieved by focusing on strong project and cost management, shortening project lead times, developing dynamic pricing models for consumers, and developing YIT further into a more data-, technology- and process-driven organisation.
Significant benefits are also expected from efficiency measures already implemented or initiated, which are part of the transformation programme completed in 2024.
YIT aims to create targeted growth and resilience with its current business portfolio. We strive for a more even geographical distribution of revenue and focus on businesses that are most likely to generate profitable and capital-efficient growth.
At the beginning of 2025, the company established a new business segment, Residential CEE, which is expected to achieve significant growth. At the same time, the new Residential Finland business segment continues to pursue operational efficiency and build readiness to increase market share as the Finnish housing market begins to recover.
The Building Construction business segment focuses on growing industrial investments, strengthening technical building systems capabilities and growth in CEE countries. Growth in the Infrastructure business segment is mainly driven by energy and industrial projects, data centres, rail infrastructure and the defence sector.
All of YIT’s businesses and selected focus areas are strongly supported by key global megatrends such as urbanisation and demographic changes, climate change and the energy transition, digitalisation, and the increasing importance of global security.
To further improve customer and employee experience, YIT aims to differentiate itself by creating industry-leading value for its customers in its projects. In addition, YIT focuses on strengthening its corporate culture and strategic capabilities and attracting top talent to support its strategic focus of developing YIT into a more data-, technology- and process-driven organisation. The company also aims to improve occupational safety and is committed to continuous improvement in this focus area.
We are committed to sustainability
Sustainability is one of the key building blocks of the new strategy. According to YIT’s vision, sustainability is an essential part of a good life and provides a clear competitive advantage for the company.
In terms of environmental criteria, we are committed to the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement. In November 2021, YIT became the first Finnish construction company to commit to science-based emission reduction targets (SBTi). Science Based Targets (SBTi) approved YIT’s emission reduction targets in June 2023. Through this commitment, we strengthen our climate work and aim to reduce both our own emissions and those of our customers.
In terms of social criteria, we continue our work to develop society and build a better living environment. Our goal is to achieve a combined lost-time injury frequency (cLTIF) below 5 across all our operations during the strategy period. We invest in strengthening wellbeing at work and personal growth.
In terms of governance, we remain strongly committed to combating the grey economy. We do not accept corruption, exploitation of labour or discrimination.
We also promote our sustainability targets throughout our entire supply chain. We require our suppliers to follow the same standards regarding people and environmental wellbeing, surrounding society and good governance as we have set for ourselves.
